1:1 BUSINESS CONSULTANCY

After 23 years in business, I have learned a little about solving problems.

My Business Consultancy service is very simple. I charge a £5000 engagement fee and provision of funds plus a fee of 10% of whatever I help you to earn, make or save.

That’s 10% of whatever my advice and assistance help you earn or 10% of whatever my advice and assistance help you save.

To clarify my process, allow me to give you three real-life examples.

Jane's property reservation problem.

Janet was buying property, but she had a problem. The person had agreed to the sale to her but was now trying to back out of the deal. The agent had signed her reservation form without the full consent of the seller. To make matters worse, her strict timeline to flip the property allowed her to start renovations before the sale was complete. Now, the seller was trying to back out of the deal, and she needed somebody to work with her through the situation's complexity. By the time she contacted me, she had already spent tens of thousands of pounds on the pre-renovation and was told that she would lose all of the money as the seller did not recognize the reservation for the sale. I helped to get a lawyer. I advised her and the lawyer on what to do regarding the negotiation. We negotiated back and forth until she received compensation to the tune of £50,000 to cover her expenses and inconvenience. My fee for my part in this work was 10% of the £50,000 I helped her earn.

Peters’ Voluntary agreement

Peter was in a difficult financial situation. He couldn't pay his mortgage and had left it for so long that he had accrued a massive debt. I helped him solve this problem. The mortgage debt on the property had now accrued to more than the property could achieve at sale. In Real estate terms, this is called an upside-down house.

Although the outstanding mortgage debt was much more than the current market price, I not only helped him find a buyer for the property, but I negotiated on his behalf with the mortgage lender for them to accept a mortgage settlement, which was significantly less than the amount owed. This allowed him to sell the property, walk away from the debt, and make a small profit upon the completion of the sale. His full amount of debt was £180,000. I charged him 10% of this for my services because I saved him from having his assets seized by the bank by arranging a voluntary agreement and finding him a buyer to complete the sale.

Rick wanted to set up a business and employed me as a business consultant to help him.

He needed finance for his business and had engaged a venture capital firm to find him the money. The venture capital firm was charging him £400,000 to find him the £3.8 million he needed to launch his endeavour. He paid this company £10,000 upon engagement and was due to pay them another £400,000, which they said had to be paid before the final contracts for the £3.8 million in funding were released into his lawyer's account. He was selling his house to prepare himself to pay £400,000 when he contacted me to consult on his business. I investigated a venture capital firm and discovered they were a fraudulent company with directors who had been in several illegitimate companies. I delivered proof of this and stopped him from moving forward with the payment of the £400,000, which would have been completely lost as no £3.8 million in investor funding was ever going to be forthcoming. I charged him 10% for the 400,000 pounds that I saved him.

    Far too many business owners set up a business because they have a skill. A service, a skill or a product that they can provide to the world. This is what Michael Gerber in his book the ‘E Myth revisited’ called the entrepreneurial seizure.

    You realize that you're great at something, or you have something that solves a problem, and your focus, quite rightly is on that.

    That's your era of expertise, that is what you have do to help people, that is the problem that people will pay you to solve.

    Your problem is you have absolutely no idea how to sell it.

    Even if you could get to through the marketing stage and get your product or service in front of people who were interested in it. Even if you could them right in front of you, many of you would probably chase them away with your tactics and behavior when it comes to trying to sell.

    The reason for this, as Jerry Vass said in his great book, ‘soft sell in the in a hard world’, is because the vast majority of us were brought up to see sales as something sleazy and despicable, something that we don't want to be a part of.

    Most of us have come across horrible shuck and jive salesmen who irritated us or called us nonstop after we had politely declined like some kind of a lunatic stalker, or even worse, used their smooth-talking tactics to sell us something that we didn't really want or didn't really serve our needs leaving us feeling conned and with that bitter taste in our mouth.

    This left us feeling negatively towards all kinds of salespeople.

    So, with that attitude towards sales people and sales, how can we then bring ourselves to engage in the process of selling our products.

    Well, if you simply cannot then you hire salespeople to sell your product because sales is beneath you.

    This works out terribly because firstly, you hire the wrong kind of people. You end up hiring the kind of people who you hate in the first place, because you think that's what a salesman is.

    Secondly, most of the people engaged in that kind of sales are the worst type of salespeople. So, your product doesn't fly off the shelf as you had hoped, you just create another liability for your business, a sales person who doesn’t sell or if he does creates multiple refunds once his sales spiel wears off and the customer has buyer’s remorse.

    So you eventually let this sales person go and return to trying to sell yourself, which you fail to do successfully because, as we said at the beginning, you hate sales.

    We are here to stop this cycle. The truth is, nobody can sell your product better than you, and once you've learned how to sell effectively, you will be a star salesperson in your organization. And only when you have brought in enough revenue and grown your business beyond the scale that you can manage should hire and train more salesmen.

    And when you hire and train more salesmen, you train them on your own sales methodology and on the way that you want them to sell, a way that represents you and your business.
